Cherish The Change | Harvest 2021

From day one, the Old Road Wine Co. based in Franschhoek has focused on crafting a portfolio of terroir-driven wines.

Winemaker Ryan Puttick has been given the freedom to craft his best expression of each cultivar. With a focus on maintaining wine integrity through quality, he has steered the winery along the (old) road to success. Harvest 2021 started on the 28th of January with Verdelho from Stellenbosch.

Since then, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc grapes have come in from the white varieties, and Pinotage has also arrived from the reds side.  Ryan shares that this year the team will be experimenting with harvesting the same blocks at different sugar levels. “This is only being done on certain blocks, and it’s once again giving us room to play and push the boundaries of our winemaking.”

While 2020 was no walk through the vineyards for anyone, Ryan reflects back saying that: “Last year learnt to value the smaller things in life and will be carrying that lesson into Harvest 2021”.
