Our Juliette Wins Gold at the 2019 Mundus Vini Awards
It turns out Juliette doesn’t really need her Romeo after all, as our Juliette Sauvignon Blanc 2018 from our best-selling Quirky Range just won GOLD at the 2019 Mundus Vini Awards!
The Juliette Sauvignon Blanc is a recent release from Old Road Wine Company. Launched in late 2018, the Old Road Wine Company opened its doors alongside the picturesque entrance to Franschhoek, and honours the untold tales of the legendary characters that shaped the Winelands’ ‘French corner’.
The Juliette is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc and has her roots in the shale soils of the stunning Highfield farm in Elgin, in a vineyard farmed for premium wine. In the vineyard, our viticulturist included intensive shoot thinning and leaf removal after berry set to allow for optimum tropical flavours to develop in the fruit.
When making the Juliette Sauvignon Blanc, our talented Old Road Wine Co. winemaker Ryan Puttick says his inspiration for the fresh and vibrant white wine came from a desire to capture ripe tropical summery flavours. At the same time, he wanted to conserve the freshness and racy acidity of this Sauvignon Blanc on the palate and the finish.
The result is a lively wine, with crushed pineapple, bananas and soft tropical notes of white peaches and pear on the nose followed by a full mouthfeel with fresh green melon flavours that excite the senses, and a lingering finish.
Aptly placed in the ‘Quirky’ Range, our Juliette is perfect for relaxing on a picnic blanket or with long lunches around the pool, surrounded by the stirring sounds of nature and the laughter of loved ones sharing a memorable moment. Juliette is also an excellent wine for food such as grilled prawns, sushi and other seafood dishes.
Congratulations to winemaker Ryan Puttick and his hardworking cellar team for crafting the best of the Blancs!
